Fishing Report for New Melones by Glory Hole Sports.

Located in Calaveras County in Angels Camp off of Highway 49. New Melones Lake was formed with the completion of a 625-foot high dam in 1979. New Melones surpassed in size the Old Melones reservoir that had been formed in 1926. In 1982, the lake was filled and on its way to becoming one of the many beautiful Reservoir's in California.

Several launching sights, 12,500 surface acres of water (at full capacity), and 100 miles of shoreline Make this the fourth largest lake in California.

This fishing is great year round at New Melones. Trout, Bass, Catfish, Crappie, Kokanee. It is free to launch your boat at New Melones. You can also stay overnight on the lake. There is plenty of campgrounds. This is a recreational lake. There is lots of room for water skiing and jet skiing. They do have floating bathrooms on the lake during summer months.

The wildlife is abundant on and around the lake. Osprey hawks bald eagles are common in the late winter and spring. Egrets and herons can be spotted. Black tail deer, fox, and raccoons are a common sight. Teal, mallard ducks, Canadian geese, cormorants, and coots & turtles. The majority of the lake is bordered by land managed by the Bureau of Reclamation, and is open to hunting, season permitting.

Lake Alpine - Located approximately 28 miles above Arnold Ca not far from Bear Valley Ca, 180 acres with depths averaging 40 feet. Good for July and August fishing when trout are sluggish at lower elevations due to summer temperatures. Small boats are allowed, check with Forest Service first. Good fishing both from the bank and trolling. The Lodge at Lake Alpine should be able to give you some helpful tips on preferred spots and bait.

Lake Tulloch - Marina with boat launch ramp, berths and rentals. Ski boats, patio boats, fishing boats, wave runners and kayaks available. Fishing supplies, bait, mini mart, ice and groceries. (209) 785-8200 - 7260 O'Byrnes Ferry Rd, Copperopolis, CA  95228

Spicer Reservoir - Located 8 miles south of Hwy 4 above Big Meadows Campground, this reservoir covers 2,000 acres at full pool. Good fishing in July and August from shore or small boats (Note: a 10 MPH speed limit is enforced on the main body of the reservoir with the eastern "arm" closed to motorized boating). Boat launch and facilities.

White Pines Lake - One mile from Arnold Ca at the edge of White Pines across from the Moose Lodge. Well stocked with Trout, some Bass and Catfish. Picnic Area, Swimming Area, no motorized boats allowed. The lake is private but all can fish. Good place for kids to fish. No overnight camping or campfires allowed.

Mosquito Lake - On Highway 4 approximately 36 miles above Arnold Ca, 15 minutes from Bear Valley Ca two small lakes are stocked regularly during the summer months.
